The Serbian Genealogy Society has been officially started in 2002 by a group Serbs from Serbia and abroad. It is the legal successor of the Serbian Genealogical Foundation that has been active since the early 1996's. Before that we were a group of researchers with many years of experience.

Ever since its creation the SGS has been working hard on creating a online enviroment on genealogy in Serbia and the region. Most people have no idea where to go when they wish to do research. For people inside Serbia doing research is relatively easy. As nationals they have access to the archives, and it's only a matter of interest and time. For those living outside of Serbia it is harder since the archives are not availible on microfilm.

Membership in the SGS allows you to do more on our site then regular visitors can do. You get access to the member section and you can do the following:

• - Letter templates to write to the archives,
• - Translations on the SGS forums,
• - Possibility to post confidential info on the SGS forum which is not a public forum,
• - family page,
• - SGS magazine with the latest news and updates from Serbia concerning genealogy and heraldry,
• - contacting other members to assist you in your research,

We warmly invite you to join us. Your membership in the SGS will give more enjoyment from your hobby or professional pursuits. It also places you with a group of long established genealogists. Together we promote our genealogy and work together on family history. The rich history that Serbia and the region have to offer, make the SGS a divers group of people who are engaged in family history. We all share the same common love for genealogy. The SGS website can be your portal to discover your family roots. We have something for everybody.

In March 2006 a Board Meeting was held and a meeting was held at Sveti Sava between the Dragomir Acović (President of the SHS) and Sergei Oudman (President SGS). In the meeting between the two presidents a lot of issues were covered. The most important is the soon to be openened White Eagle presentation at the www.rodoslovlje.com website. Serbian Society for Heraldry, Genealogy, Vexillology and Phaleristics, also known as Serbian Heraldry Society "White Eagle", was founded in 1991. The society is the only professional organisation of that kind in Serbia. It interferes in research and work in the field of science about arms, genealogy, flags, medals and honours, along with more specialized fields such as insigniology, archontology and nobilistics. Srpso Rodoslovno Društvo je zvanično počelo sa radom 2002 te, na čelu sa grupom Srba iz Srbije i van nje. Od samog početka SRD je radilo na stvaranju informacija online za Srbiju i Crnu Goru.Ova ideja proizilazi iz osnovne činjenice da ima puno ljudi koji ne znaju gde i kako da krenu u potragu za svojim precima.

Za ljude koji već žive u Srbiji potraga za precima ne pričinjava veliki problem. Njima nije veliki problem da pristupe važnim dokumentima iz arhiva Srbije i Crne Tore, sve naravno zavisi od vrste infomacije koja se traži. SRD ima za cilj da informiše Srbe širom Srbije, koliko u samoj Srbiji i Crnoj Gori, toliko i van lje.
