STATUTES

Name, goal

Article 1

1. The name of the society is the Serbian Genealogical Society / Srpsko Rodoslovno Društvo.
2. The society was created on the 24th of October 2002, and has been engaged for an in definitive amount of time. The SGS is the legal successor of the Serbian Genealogical Foundation.
3. The society’s year is the same as the calendar year.

Article 2

1. The society’s goal is to promote and stimulate genealogy and related sciences in the broadest sense of the word in Serbia-Montenegro and the rest of the region. To supply resources both online and offline for the general public and members.
2. To assist the archives in promoting and assisting in genealogical research in the broadest sense of the word.

Board meeting 2008

Last month a board meeting was organized in Belgrade in which the full board of directors was present to discuss the many developments that have been going on in the world of genealogy. One of the most important debates was that of our online presence and how we can improve this. The first major step has been made by the usage of the new site system which allows us to publish fully in both English and Serbian. Other steps still need to be done such as the embedding of the forums into the layout, but we are glad to say that the site works smooth.

Members can post news and submit stories, and we are happy to see that the number of visitors and members has been increasing gradually over time.

Looking for volunteers

The SGS is looking for volunteers both in and outside of Serbia that are willing to help with the website. We are looking for online editors that can write interesting articles for other researchers. We are also looking for people who want to start a branch of the SGS in their own hometown. You should English or course and Serbian is welcome. People that speak other languages e.g. Hungarian are also welcome to join in and help creating online content for those people researching their family.

Online Editor

You should have some experience with genealogy and history. Preferably you speak English and Serbian fluently as we expect articles to written in both languages. Both members and non-members can apply for this position.

About us

The Serbian Genealogy Society has been officially started in 2002 by a group Serbs from Serbia and abroad. It is the legal successor of the Serbian Genealogical Foundation that has been active since the early 1996's. Before that we were a group of researchers with many years of experience.

Ever since its creation the SGS has been working hard on creating a online enviroment on genealogy in Serbia and the region. Most people have no idea where to go when they wish to do research. For people inside Serbia doing research is relatively easy. As nationals they have access to the archives, and it's only a matter of interest and time. For those living outside of Serbia it is harder since the archives are not availible on microfilm.
