Papp and Sarkany (2 replies)

Rodoslov Forum - Sun, 09/07/2008 - 04:53
Am researching my grandparents, Janos Papp (Pap) and his wife, Elizabeth Sarkany. He was born 20 June 1881 in NagyBesckerek, now Zrenjanin. Elizabeth was born 14 May 1885 in NagyBesckerek or NagyErzsbetlak, now Bela Blato. They were married in NagyBesckerek on 13 November 1904. His parents were Sandor Papp and Lenka Szava. Her father was Antal Sarkany. Janos and Elizabeth had two children born in NagyBesckerek and came to the US in 1907. They went back to NagyBesckerek and Janos came back in 1912 and Elizabeth in 1913. Based on the passenger lists Janos had a brother, Miklos and Elizabeth had a brother, Istvan. Looking for any help not knowing how to research in Serbia.

RE: my grandfather: Serbian KOCIC ? - KOZIC ? - GEORGIJ became KOSITCH, GEORGE in America

Where -- in Serbia -- did our Family Name or Tribe come from ?

Is KOZIC the correct spelling of my grandfather's Serbian Family name and
tribe ?

G'pa was born in Hungary - Medina (Tolna county)

-- his parents names were translated as: JOVAN and TIJANA ... I know nothing more of my great-grand-parents.

... from Old Slavonic Serbian Orthodox christening record of 1878 ...
the Hungarian Archivist could not accurately translate the spelling of my
paternal grandfather's family (tribe) name

-- 1878 Church record = KOZIC, GEORGIJ, GEORGII
-- 1904 ship = KOSZICS, GYORGY - Magyarized on German manifest
-- 1910 US Census = KOSEITCH, KOSSITCH, KOZSITCH, George
-- 1920 US Census = KOSITCEITCH, KOSITEEICH, George
-- 1930 US Census = KOSITCH, George

surname Anic (2 replies)

Rodoslov Forum - Wed, 09/03/2008 - 03:18
Hello,
I'm researching my family. I have traced my great grandfather, Ivan Anic, to Otocac, Croatia. He was born March 14, 1864 (if my info is correct). He married Francis (Franca ?) in July 1895. I believe her maiden name was Gomerich. They had four children in or around the Otocac area (or possibly Svicca). They are Josip, Anna, Manda and Nikola. Ivan went to America in 1906 and his wife followed with the children in 1911. I'd like to find out where they were married, if they had any brothers or sisters, who their parents were, etc. Basically, I'd like to find out as much as I can. Can anyone help me? I'm thinking about hiring a professional genealogist, since I understand that most archives are in latin or some other language that I can't read. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Pitanje (1 reply)

Rodoslov Forum - Mon, 09/01/2008 - 20:40
Molila bih nekog da mi pomogne. :-)

Hvala unapred

My eldest ancestor whom I managed to trace was called Kojadin and was born around 1790. (I don't know what his surname was, nor the name of his father). Apparently, he moved to Milosevo (then Domuz Potok) near Jagodina (at the time the village was part of Kragujevac nahija, Lepenicki Srez) from the village called Veliki Izvor near Zajecar. His son was called Obren Kojadinovic (born around 1830) and my family is now called Obrenovic after him. Our St. patron is Velika Gospodja.

There is a book called Veliki Izvor kroz Vekove by Sergije Kalcic, which I am trying to find for some time. I am interested to find out if anyone has information on Veliki Izvor and what specifically made people leave this village. Apparently, a lot of people who left the village moved to Dublje, near Svilajnac.
I've been to the Archives in Belgrade, but couldn't find anything more then this.

Any information on Kojadinovic/Obrenovic ancestry highly appreciated.

Odakle potice prezime Selenic (3 replies)

Rodoslov Forum - Fri, 08/22/2008 - 10:38
Pozdrav svima,

Boskovich, Selencich, Cacich in Trebinje, Herzegovina (3 replies)

Rodoslov Forum - Wed, 08/13/2008 - 11:12
I'm trying to find information about my grandfather's ancestors. His name was Simo Boskovich. His father's name was Theodor Boskovich and his mother's name was Save Selencich. Granddad was from a small town in Herzeogovina named Mrkonjici, in Trebinje District. Granddad, his brother Obren Boskovich, and his cousin Vukan Cacich immigrated to San Bernardino CA, later relocating to Bard CA, right across the Colorado River from Yuma AZ. Obren returned to Mrkonjici to fetch his bride but ended up staying there with her. They had a sister in Mrkonjici named Anna. Vukan Cacich was from the same town Mrkonjici or nearby, maybe Drijenjani. If anybody can help me locate these families in this part of Herzegovina, or help me find an address for archival research in that area, I would be much obliged. Thank you.
