As some might have noticed we added the heraldry feature to the surname database. Prior to this on the old database it was seperate. Now it is integrated and will display the Coat of Arms with additional information. Please be aware that the arms added are from Siebmacher and old Serbian sources and that most families in Serbia do not have a Coat of Arms. The Siebmacher source deals with families in Dalmatia and the Serbian sources deal with Serbs that were enlisted in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Other Serbian families in Serbia proper are from the medieval noble corpus, which are extinct: http://www.rodoslovlje.com/voyager/en/heraldika

    Jugoslava,

This will soon change, we are adding the functionality. Its on the todo list :-)

Sheila is indeed a member. But we always advice members to post on the members forum to prevent confusion as its the only place members can post and not non-members.

You would have to start your search at the archives in Pančevo.

    Hello Alistair,

Your should contact the archives in Novi Sad for starters. If he joined the Legion and finished his tour he did have French citizenship though and the Legion has good record keeping. There is/was a large German population in Vojvodina so its possible he was German or Austrian for that matter. Please read the FAQ and let me know if you need more assistence, membership would be an option.

This is where Slabina is: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Slabinja,+Hrvatska+Dubica,+Hrvatska&hl=en&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=54.928982,79.013672&oq=slabinja&hnear=Slabinja,+Republika+Srpska,+Bosnia+and+Herzegovina&t=h&z=14&iwloc=A

Now Pec is, as Jugoslava says, in Kosovo. The Turks refer to Pec as Ipek. And a lot of Serbs that lived there as well during the occupation. So its possible that they were from those two places.

We will soon have the pedigree system active on this website. That will make things easier to work with.

    Hello Connie,

Ok, I checked the attached files. Some problems with the documents. The first one looks like a death certificate but its handwritten. So its not an official one, you will need to get that from the archives. If it fits the handwritten note then its adds to its validity.

So the following steps are required to verify and validate the story.

    1. Contact the archives for the death certificate,

    2. Contact the Church and ask if they have any records,

Do the scans have any logo's btw? Especially the first one?

I think we wrote an article on the forums or somewhere on the website about hiring researchers. Our general experience is that its not worth the money. And if you do hire one, get one that lives in Serbia.

Emails are not considered normal for inquiries with the archives. This is something to take into consideration. As Jugoslava pointed out, Serbia has equal privacy laws as in Germany.
