Ok I have gone +/- five years on the birth years you provided – and nothing. Not a single BISCHOFF appears born within that time frame in Žabalj records. I found LANG birth record from year 1894., which confirms that LANG family did live there ( mother had maiden surname LANG ).

I have also looked through confirmation records for the period 1876-1914 and again found no BISCHOFF or any spelling variant of that surname.

My suggestion based on that is that the information from the obituary/death certificate for that being the place and parish of origin is incorrect – meaning that it may have only been family last place of residence before emigrating, or the information that was based on later records after emigrating. Žabalj in these records and in ship manifest may have been listed as place of origin as being the nearest municipal centre where travel papers were issued.

If I have time I will look more through these records, but for now my advice is that you first go with fine comb through all the passenger lists, naturalization and draft and census records you have to try and see if anything else was ever mentioned as place of origin for BISCHOFF family.

Also you may register for Kalocsa diocese e-archive and explore Žabalj records in detail , year by year all records, but I only advise that people register for a paid service like that after the place of origin is confirmed.

On possible related locations, BIŠOF ( alternate Serbian spelling ) surname appears in Serbian Trade Association online records as one of the employers who took their casets in year 1938 in nearby BAČKI JARAK parish ( Jarek, Batschki Jarak or Jarmosch; in Hungarian as Jármos or Tiszaistvánfalva).

Location of birth is often written down as village or parish of origin plus the municipal centre – like the first nearby town.

In your case I would say probably neither, but another smaller location of origin – I have found no public records on the family in the area to cite the exact location so far, but will look for it more.

I suggest you try and contact members of PAKAŠKI family who still live in Srpski Krstur – they will be able to obtain original certificatte of birth for you ancestor BOŽO PAKAŠKI from their local municipal office, and tell you more about the family history.

According to information from over here the family was from the village of Jasikovac, Korenica, Croatia. Some records of Serbian Orthodox Church from Croatia are available online via familysearch but I have to check what is there and which parish you need – in any case these will most probably be earlier records.

If the family is still Serbian Orthodox or if Dane remained member of the SOC after emigrating try to locate any marriage records, baptism records of his children and even his children’s marriage records – and you need to hunt down and make copies of the original records – often in them the exact village of origin and household number was written for the people who emigrated. This will help you find people who are descendants of the same branch who can help fill in the gaps or obtain records locally.

I will also browse the WWII victims of genocide records, since families over there suffered great losses.

If you find any census or draft or immigration record that has a middle name in it, that will be the first name of his father.

Other than that, we have access to heritage books for one of the areas of origin of Vukelić emigrants – Drežnica and Gomirje monastery communities that include villages named *Vukelići* .

Ok I checked the birth and baptism records of RC for Titel for the period 1900-1908 and there are no records at all with surname Baumgärtner in there. Also no one in the confirmation records from 1914.

That was a quick look up as this parish was small, but to do that for Novi Sad records would be an effort of more than ten, twenty hours of detailed work – and as a volunteer I can only dedicate that amount of time to our paid members who keep the society going.

I suggest that either you register for this e-archive and explore the records in detail on your own with our assistance in navigating the records and translating from Hungarian, or register as a member for Rodoslovlje and have the admin forward me your request for a lookup.

Records for Roman Catholics from Novi Sad parishes are available online via Kalocsa diocese e-archive and cover the period 1763- 1922. In these records you will for many individuals find their parish of birth or origin listed – which is especially important if you are looking for where the colonists or military servicemen came from.

It is far too great effort for me to look into this in terms of time needed for you do do just a random look up – there are thousands of images of original records to go through to establish if these individuals or their family members appear in the records available for the period you indicated – so I suggest you either register for the service of thi e-archive and explore it in detail, or register as a paid member for Rodoslovlje – I can only dedicate that much volunteer time to work on behalf of people who help us keep the society going.

Other than that, there is a substantial collection of military records available in the ARHIV VOJVODINE located in Novi Sad, and they hold documents such as official charters awarded to families upon being given the military nobility status.

Worth looking into is also the military archive in Belgrade because many records confiscated from K und K military after WWI are still there.
