Hi there

I recently contacted someone in Croatia to trace my mothers family tree. Most of the family were Donauschwaben and most of my great granparents generation were born in Vojvodina which is now part of Serbia, and I have hit a brick wall with finding records. The towns were Novi Sad, Apatin, Vukovar and Filipowa now Bački Gračac. Anyone who does it professionally would be appreciated. Let me know and we can make some arrangements

Did you read the articles in the Research section and the FAQ's. There is a lot of info there and work that you can do before you go look for a researcher.

Regards,
Sergej

Send me details on individuals you are researching and I will check what is available online that you can research on your own with our assistance before you hire anyone  - a lot of Roman Catholic records are available on Family Search for free and digital archives which charge a small fee in Hungary.

Hi Yugaya

I did a little searching after finding this site, and found synergia a Serbian genealogical company. With little informatioon, the village name a surname they have come up with some positive results. I have already looked on Family Search for Hungary and not one of the many names I put in came up with a match. But if you want, try Franz Gillich born in Filipowa about 1890 and see if it comes up with a positive results. Thanks for your interest in the topic

Records for that parish are available online via Kalocsa diocese e-archive.

The period covered is (1767) 1808 - 1922.

You can read about that and find links for registering here:

http://www.rodoslovlje.com/forum/vojvodina/kalocsa-roman-catholic-archdiocese-e-archive

That is my recommended line of research for you  - it is way cheaper than hiring any agency even if you register for a full year, it is research of the original vital records that you can conduct from your own home and in your free time at no cost, and the records that are available cover most of the other parishes people from your ancestral place married to/from or migrated  - so you will be able to document with original records all of the family lines with original birth, marriage and death records. I will help you with headings and translations because these records are in Latin and in Hungarian language.

Records in this archive also cover three of the four places you listed - Novi Sad, Apatin,  and Filipowa now Bački Gračac. Records for Vukovar I need to check but i think they are online via familysearch.org.

You probably had little result searching through indexes for Hungary - these records are not in there, and even for the odd ones that are indexed the level of both mistakes in indexing 8 done by non-native speakers), and the changes of the spelling of surnames that were written in your case in four different languages over time ( german, Latin, Hungarian, Serbian) and place names makes it hard to find anyone without looking at the actual records.

I am browsing the records for your ancestor  from Filipowa right now, will update if I find him and post you the digital image of his birth record.

Also if you can provide any other names from other places i will find you a record in each of them, to give you a starting point.

Franciscus Gillich was born on July 17th 1889 and baptized on July 18th 1889. He was a legitimate child of parents Antonius Gillich and Elisabeth Matkesz, both Roman Catholics. Family address was Filipowa 410, and his godparents were Franciscus Hönig and Rovina Dickmann. He was baptized by priest Matthiaus Nagel.
