    Bob,

We are having conversations now with several candidates that will do research for us. I will keep you all posted when we hire someone.

I have spoken with Dr. Acovic and some other fellow members of the White Eagle concerning Heraldry and the illegal use that is being pursued on the internet by various people of all nations etc.
It appears the number of these kind of people is growing, as well as the organizations that are involved in this when it comes to commerce. Due to some law cases in Europe regarding the illegal use of arms the SGS has decided to make sure that there can be no error in the handling of heraldry inside the SGS. Therefore the heraldic dept has been closed untill further notice. Those of you who are engaged in heraldic research take not of the points below. Because the field of Heraldry is related to genealogy we advice our members the following.

    1. First do your genealogy to find out if you have a coat of arms that is being used in your family. In our case, the Serbian which is paternal, the patriarch of the family holds one which is being passed on from father to son. If this is the case you can use that arms.
    2. If you have sirious questions regarding your own “alleged” arms contact the White Eagle or one of its members. Besides me this is Sasa Jankovic.
    3. Do never use any kind of arms without checking if it is really yours, and if it is really registered at a legal entity for heraldry. Please be aware that registering your arms from Serbia in another country will not hold.
    4. The society will not display any arms of people that are not officially registered at the White Eagle when it comes to Serbia. The society is not interested in a legal case.
    5. Members can contact the society to ask for excerpts of the Rietstap manual and soon we hope also the Siebmacher manual on arms. But please be aware that if there is an arms with a name, it not necessarly means that this is your arms. You must proof it with facts, afterwards registering it at the White Eagle to receive official grant of the arms as being yours. You must have a proof of this in order to use it in public.

The SGS will soon have collective membership in the White Eagle. This will mean that the White Eagle will be responsible for the Heraldic issues. Now if Dr. Acovic is willing we will appoint an official officer for this because both he and I are too busy with the current tasks. The same if for the other board members at the moment.

As said before this measure is an extreme one. The SGS is making contact and liasons with all European based societies to set up a network.

    Zdravo Aleksandar,

We can do either in Serbian or in English. ITs the same here. Fact is that there are more Serbs in diaspora that are interested in their heritage with internet access.

Couple of questions from my side.

    1. Do you have Serbian citizenship? If so you can always access the archives yourself when you are in Serbia.
    2. You can become a member( student discount you only pay 10 bucks per year ;-) ) and post more information on the member forum. Unfortuannally we dont have any researchers yet in Serbia, we have a job opening for it at http://www.serbia-today.com
    3. You can check the archives page and see to which archive your home town belongs, and write them. You speak Serbian so that wouldnt be hard to do. All you need is the full name and place and date of birth of the person you are looking for.
    4. You mention the “grb”, before you can start looking into that you will first need to do genealogical research to assertain if your ancestors had one. Not all families have one. If they didnt, you can start thinking about designing your own. But only if you are 100% sure non were used in your family. You can contact our member Sasa Jankovic for that.

    Hi Bob,

Sorry for the late reply. We moved the site to a new server. And this and last week the riots in Kosovo started so we are kind of engaged in monitoring the situation there. They have already destroyed more then 30 churches and monasteries.

Vojvodina is the northern Province of Serbia, meaning the head starting at the Danube untill the border of Hungaria.

I will get back to your post asap when things cool down a bit here.
