    Also in English. Please be adviced before emailing them that most likely they will not respond. They are doing a major job right now to fix the chaos in their book keepings, resulting in just having the presentation online for now.

    Feel free to try, let me know when you get a reply!

    Mr Jankovic already talked about this on a previous post but I feel to post another one regarding this subject.

    I will summarize some issues. This is an informative post. Members are free to go and do what they want. But please be adviced we warn you on purchasing and gathering info from commercial enterprices without the source information and the genealogical data. First do your research and then find a factual proof. This means that:

    1. Not all families have a coat of arms,
    2. As stipulated before by mister Jankovic, coats or arms cannot be bought. This practice is illegal. If you wish an artist to paint or wood carve your coat of arms that is something different. But they cannot be bought.
    3. All coats of arms are registered in Serbia, the proper institute for this is the Heraldic organisation the White Eagle. You can contact them through us, only if you have factual indication through genealogical research that there is a specific coat of arms for the family in question.
    4. The White Eagle, the SGS and the SGF are non-profit proffesional organizations. Others on the net are not and wish to make profit. Keep this in mind. The cases of fraud concerning arms is high.

    The tradition of the Coats of arms is a European heritage which was used even before AD. Most families during medieval times earned crests and titles. There are a lot of families who don’t have a legacy like the one described. This doesn’t make the family less important nor active. Using a coat of arms cannot give any right to a title nor lands. Heraldic research is highly connected with genealogical research, they both fall under the same umbrella of Family Research and are intertwined with each other.

    Yes you may create your own coat of arms, however we do not encourage this practise since it will “polute” the field and it does not contribute in any way to your own genealogy, nor that the field in general. It will only create more confusion. If you do create your own coat of arms, you are obliged to state the year of creation.

    Again, you need a genealogical tree. Please base your research on facts.

    Both the SGF and the White Eagle have a similar opinion on the registration of new arms and for the commercial enterprices that move around on the genealogical field. We will however ( both organizations ) bring out a statement this year as both organizations are moving closer to intense cooperation on this field and others.

    To inform people. The Zrenjanin archives had some floodings beginning this year. We don’t know how bad the damage is, but this means that work there has been halted.

    Please make sure to calculate this in your researh!

    Avatar photoSergej

    To all:

    The SGF board is working on a new project plan concerning organizing a genealogical infrastructure. Although in the early settings of this plan we had to focus on supplying the archives with equipment, we are now postponing this plan.

    We will first focus on the fundament of the foundation and the society. This means, creating a continues flow for financing, more employers, more information and services online etc.

    We are in negotiation with the Heraldic Society of Serbia “the White Eagle”. The proposal for the SGS has been that the whole society will receive a collective membership in the genealogy branch of the White Eagle since their genealogy branch is virtually dead. We have the resources and the manpower to sustain this. The board of the SGF and SGS believes it is vital for the genealogical work in Serbia and abroad for us to cooperate and to create a collective with other related organizations. One of them is the White Eagle. Further plans for contacts with other major organizations in Serbia are ungoing, this information will be disclosed when things are more solid.

    If you wish to brainstorm with us on idea’s, you can post your idea’s on this post.

    Sincerely,

    On behalf of the SGF board

    I am looking for books, in Serbian, on the migrations of the Dalmatian Serbs. Namely from the Knin area. I already have some books that talk about this but I am wondering if I missed any ref. or books related to this. Also old documents that are in Greek or Latin are welcomed as wel as Stari Slovenski for that matter.

    I anyone knows anything please let me know.

    Ok, lets wait and see for one or two more weeks. I can’t say if they ever check their email. We are working in the mean time on getting addresses and such from the Orthodox Church on how to proceed, but its outside of Serbia and we don’t have anyone ( yet ) inside Croatia as a representative. We do have already someone in Bosnia as you can see.

    Keep me posted!

    Sheila,

    Perfect, Sveti Djordje or Saint George. We have the same family saint ;-)
    I will give you all the info for the letter and Parish this week, most likely at the end of the week or on wednesday. Depending on how much reports I need to finish.

    As for the server error you encountered. It seems its gone so I think its a glitch. If you ever encounter it, email me with exactly what it says so I can fix it or tell the guys from Phorum to fix it.

    Talk to you later,

    Here are some tips for you to do research and how to use this site.

    Before asking

    1. Before posting use the "search" option on the forums to see if anyone posted something on the surname that you are looking for,
    2. Check the article section for articles that can answer your questions,

    By following these points you will rule out double posts and asking questions that people asked before.

    The big ask

    1. Give your post an apropiate title. Something descriptive that helps other to recognize what you are posting. Titles that are not suitable include : "Help, I have a problem", "Quick, urgent help needed" ,
    2. Explain what you want. Questions like: " I need all information on the origins of the Djordjevic family" are questions that we can't answer. Think about refrasing it into: " I need information on the Djordjevic family that I traced back to Kragujevac in e.g. 1816".
    3. Provide as much information as possible: surname, first name, date and place of birth, family saint and religion. This will enable us to help you better.
    4. Please do not ask questions through the Private Message option. These are public forums where people help each other out. If you're not sure where to post, then choose the forum that you think most suitable; if needed, a moderator can move the thread to the area deemed most suitable, no harm done.
    5. Double posts will be deleted straight away without notice and can be marked as SPAM by the system!
    6. Please try and avoid hijacking a thread because the original question closely matches yours. It's always far better to start a new topic than cut into someone elses and start to take it away on a tangent – this is confusing for all and makes replying difficult.
    7. Be patient and polite; no one here is paid to help and we all have other lives to live.

    Please act with courtesy towards all members of the forum – it will pay dividends in the quality of the help that you receive, and a little thankyou for problems solved never hurts.

    After Your Ask:

    1. If you don't get a response in 48 hrs or so, then it's possible that others can't see or understand the problem. Think about rewording the post or offering more information.
    2. If you find a solution to your problem, let us know so that others can learn from your knowledge .
    3. Help others. You don't need to have the solution, sometimes just suggesting something else to try will help.

    After the answer

    The SGS runs this site and offers most services for free to the public. However we do need to pay for running this site and that is why we ask membership fee's for our membership action. If you don't feel you are capable of doing research all by yourself you should become a member of the SGS. Membership is cheap and lasts a year. We can help you with:
    * small translations,
    * letters to the archives,
    * phone help,
    * you can upload files on the forum,
    * you can post more detailed information that you don't want to post in our secure member forum,
    * and we develop new items each month to make research easier,

    Most likely their email doesn’t work then, meaning you have to write the old fashioned way. I dont have much contact almost with them since Croatia isn’t yet officially under our working area. This will change this year I hope.

    As for the letter, you can try English and see what happens
