SpectatorHi Danica,
You mean a translation of the picture attached or the website?
September 15, 2020 at 8:15 am in reply to: I need information on Pešić family from Montenegro #31936Sergej
SpectatorA lot of families migrated from Montengro, Dalmacija and Kosov into Vojvodina during that era.
Do you know of a family saint? Icons with e.g. Saint Nikola on there?
If it is Saint Nikola then you should go indeed to Ivangrad which is part of Berane. There is a lake there called Lake Pešić.

SpectatorHi Melissa,
Yea, Serbian laws requires that. But, you could also write a letter and send it to the seven people listed in the phonebook. Serbia knows a lot of small communities and you might just find direct family. I dont have any experience with the agency you listed, but if you don’t feel anything for the option I mentioned you could hire them.
Do you speak the language?
Sergej
SpectatorSo, Dragica was 16 when she gave birth to Vesna? If its in 1969 you should contact the municipality in Pancevo.
The phonebook lists a lot with the same surname in that region: http://www.11811.rs/BeleStrane/Pretraga/sve/sve/%20%20Pan%C4%8Devo%20(sva%20mesta)/pe%C5%A1i%C4%87/sve/1/0NO2FFKN
And 7 in Kacarevo: http://www.11811.rs/BeleStrane/Pretraga/sve/sve/Ka%C4%8Darevo-(Pan%C4%8Devo)/pe%C5%A1i%C4%87/sve/1/POAPHDAAD

SpectatorHi Melissa,
Go to : https://www.rodoslovlje.com/voyager/amember/member/
And then you can see it under Active Resources. It will download the Word file for you.Sergej
SpectatorWell, the archives in Serbia are in the process of being microfilmed. That is some of them, not all of them. It is a very chaotic process, nothing is really digital.. So if you are looking for genealogical data you would have to write to the archives using snail mail 😉
We have a letter template that you can use for approaching the archives in combination with the Archival Network to find the proper region. Needless to say that Serbia is seriously lagging in this field.
Sergej
SpectatorHi there,
Do you mean a family tree on paper or digital? We are wrapping up our digital version so this can be used anytime soon. Do you have any other info than the info you just posted?
Sergej
SpectatorHi Frederick,
Banatski Karlovac is a small town, I’ve been there often. Did you ever tried getting into contact with the Catholic Church there in the region? There is a still a Donauschwaben community in Serbia active that could also be approached.
Sergej
SpectatorGlad to hear and thank you for the update!

SpectatorJust checking to make sure. Do you know about this page and does any of the data ring a bell? I know its in German.
https://www.ancestry.de/search/collections/1030/?name=_KoneffAlso there is a link between Koneff and Kormushoff: http://www.pollitecon.com/html/ebooks/Macedonians-In-America.pdf page 204
In French: http://macedonia.kroraina.com/en/serafimovna/leregimeserbe.pdf page 19
In Greek, go figure: http://www.lithoksou.net/p/metanastes-ethnika-makedones-stis-ipa-stis-arxes-toy-20oy-aiona-1897-1924-2008
The name Koneff is also mentioned in the Slovanský Sborník, but doesn’t lead anywhere.
So upon some research. The era that your ancestors left was during great turmoil in the region. A lot of migrations during that time. But, besides the archives I think you should also try the municipality and see what they have: https://www.prilep.gov.mk/ Google Translate: https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.prilep.gov.mk%2F
I will continue to do some searching in phonebook records I have in the mean time.
Sergej
SpectatorYes, we had a fair amount of church burnings in the region over the past centuries. And the Balkans have always been a region of unrest.
Well if they used the surname Koneff it would’ve been spelled as “Konef”. With an -a suffix for a female member of the family ~ Konefa
I checked the phonebook from Prilep but couldn’t find any matches for you.
Do you have any documents from Macedonia that state the surname on it?Sergej
SpectatorDid you have contact with the historical archives in Bela Crkva (today’s Weisskirchen)
1. oktobra 40 26340 Bela CrkvaI would advice to write them first. Another one would be the phonebook in those places to see if there are surname matches. These are all small towns so the chance of finding relatives or people that know about them is substantial.
Sergej
SpectatorHi,
Do you have some more information? E.g. date of birth/death, places and other relevant info.
Sergej
SpectatorOk, as long as they are Serbian nationals that are allowed to enter the national archives you will be good. This is the website of the archives in Leskovac: https://www.istorijskiarhivleskovac.co.rs/ You can use Google Translate to check it out.
