SpectatorRobin,
You should first contact the archives. See what they say. Include name, date and place of birth of the individual if you have them. I advice to write in Serbian.

SpectatorDear Antonio,
Its easier to do it over the forum, I get a lot of emails and rather handle things over the forum so I can keep order.

SpectatorHi Robin,
Despotovic is an old family name that resided in what we call old Serbia (Montenegro, Kosovo and Raska Region). What you should do is contact the Serbian Orthodox Church and ask for information but also the archives of Serbia can help. You would need to write to the Central Office in Belgrade because the archives from Kosovo are dispersed over the southern region ever since 1999. There are not many people with the surname Despot or Despotovich that are not related and if the family saint matches then you have even a bigger chance of being related.

SpectatorDejan,
I agree with Brane that it explains and most likely you would be of the same branch. But either way you would have to “proof” it on paper by creating a pedigree and collectin data from the archives to be 100% sure. Thats the fun part of genealogy
Sergej
SpectatorHello Dejan,
Yes Čakarević is a branch of the Maleš tribe. Now the nice thing with genealogy is that not always people with the same surname are related and the only way for you to be sure if you belong to the Males tribe is to go to the archives.
My suggestions are:1. Go to the city hall where you father was born and request his data and the form (izvod in Serbian) will also state the name of his father and mother.
2. Then dependning on when they were born you go to the local archives and search for their birth records.
3. Continue untill you can’t find more information. Now I presume you don’t live in Serbia. So you would have to write the archives. If you do live in Serbia, visit them. Its the fastest way to find your ancestry. You need to find the person who first adopted the surname of Čakarević. That person we refer to as the patronim, he was either named after his father, profession, nickname etc. If there is a link to Golija mountain then you can continue to search there. It is however also possible that the ancestor in question was named after someone with that specific surname.
Hope this helps.

SpectatorDear Antonio,
I will forward this image to see if we can find a match. I dont know how long it will take because there are more then 5000 arms in this region.
