    Hi John,

    Ok I took a peek at the pics. Its Dupuytren for sure. Now there are some things you should now about the contracture.

    The contracture is related to your personal health. This means that a bad lifestyle will speeden up the process. Normally the contracture reveals itself when a person reaches his 50-ies but it is also known rarely though to reveal itself earlier. You should avoid the following things in order to prevent a worsening of the symptoms etc.

    1. No smoking;
    2. No alcohol;
    3. No coffee or black tea;
    4. Try to avoid caffeine as much as possible;

    Depending on if the contracture is also on your feet you should avoid to put long stress on either hands or feet.

    Now about the surgery. My father e.g. has a lot of this. I until now do not have it but it doesn”™t mean I cant get it because it autosomal dominant and I have a 50-50 chance that it can appear with me. Now I don”™t smoke so it didnt appear year. My little brother who is 25 smokes and drinks and it just started with him. My father also had it very early due to his life style.
    Now you can perform surgery on hands and feet to remove the bumps and Dupuytren bumps but I must warn about this. My father underwent like 15 operations, in some cases the Dupuytren was back within 3 weeks!
    Surgery will only worsen it, the best thing you can/could do is to prevent any of the above by having a healthy style of living.

    Doctors will have no clue what to do with it because this contracture is very rare. The local doctors here had a party when they could operate because they only read about it. The contracture is very rare, but when you have it you know your ancestry ;-)

    The disease originated from Celts, but you read the article so parts are in there. Other information such as works from Universities you can find in the articles sources so you could give that to your doctor.

    Remedies. There are none, once you have it you are screwed, there is no other way to say it. If your doctor wants to operate take into consideration that it can get back as soon as 3 weeks after the operation so only operate if you really cant take it anymore. E.g. if the bump is on top of a nerve or something. But if you get operated let it be done by a Plastic surgeon and not some farmer ;-)

    Now the good thing that can come from this contracture, yes there is something good from it. When you research your family tree you not only look for the names but also physical features. In your case its easy, the Contracture is very rare so if you find someone e.g. in the area where you family lives, the chances of being related is very big. But caution is always needed, the Western European doctors did research on this. There is however no registration in Eastern Europe & Serbia so we don”™t know for sure what the percentage is of people that have this.

    Franciska,

    You would in either case have to go to the archives there. Now the archives of Serbia are not on microfilm so most likely it will require you to do at location research. As for the prison camps, they were in German management and most likely the records have been destroyed or are located in Germany. If located in Germany then the chances of accessing them is virtually 0 because of the data protection that they have.

    Now you can do research in Kovacica to first get all the details of the family. Now did you mother have a relationship with the man inside the camp? Was he working there? There is a list of people that were in camps inside Serbia but its very extensive so some more background info is welcome.

    Regards,

    Yes, everything has been destroyed. You can check if the graveyars are still there. Otherwise we suggest you try with the National Archives of Croatia since all is microfilmed there. Otherwise I fear that most of the material you are looking for is either destroyed or missing.

    There are a lot of Rnic in Kovin, Vojvodina. Most of them came from that area. You should inquire with them see if they know anything.
