SpectatorHello John,
Feri is a member of the SGS. As you can read in the article section we provide information on availible researchers. But we as a society are not involved in the contract you make with any researcher SGS member or not.
My initial attitude towards this is as following. If you want to do as much research yourself as possible then wait for an answer from the Archives and see how far you can get on your own. If not then hire a researcher. Serbia’s archives are in a terrible state compared to our neigbors so it is a time taking enterprise. Its possible your family are from origins Slovaks that lived in Serbia–>Vojvodina. Research will make that clear.

SpectatorJust a heads up, due to tech changes on the site some discount schemes will also be included in this topic soon.

SpectatorWe talked with Milorada Djekanovica and got the confirmation that nothing has survived the fires and destruction except some records from the 1970-ies.

SpectatorWe just finished an inventory on the Serbian Orthodox Books from the Krka region, Dalmatia, Croatia. The only books that were not destroyed during the civil war cover the 1970-ies. All other material unfortunally has been destroyed. If people are looking in the region they should try with the Croatian State archives and family in the region. We fear however that a large portion of our heritage has been lost for good. Also what people can try is to contact the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church did on occasion do the registration in Dalmatia in cases there was no Orthodox church present/representative present.

SpectatorHi John,
Farkaždin falls under the archives of Pancevo. You can write the archives and see if they have their information stored there:
http://www.arhivpancevo.org.yu/
Istorijski arhiv u Pančevu
Srbija i Crna Gora, 26000 Pančevo, Nemanjina b.b.
tel/fax: (+381 13) 317-344; 331-240, E-mail: [email protected]If you write them through snail mail and you dont know Serbian you can use the letter template in the members–>downloads section.
The correct spelling of the surname should be: Stojadinov
I was also wondering if it was : Stojadinovic ?Regards

You can try but you should write in Serbian and I dont know if they will respond.Sergej
SpectatorHi,
I dont know who gave you that information but you can go back as early as 1748. You should really contact them.
Sergej
SpectatorYes, I am working with the webmaster to update the system for our surname database. We have a couple of hundred of names in there and still need to add like 120.000 surnames with info (-D
Sergej
SpectatorI need to know if 2-3 generations lived in 1 location in order to determine. But that is something you can do yourself as well. If you contact the archives in that region where you have your ancestors name from then you are already on your way to get precise info, in your case the archives in Novi Sad.
Sergej
SpectatorWithout more info it is all speculation because there are different branches of that family. You really need to track the line person by person.
