SpectatorThat would have to be Cetinje then in Montenegro.
You can use the phonebooks of Serbia & Montenegro to search for relatives. I dont know if you speak Serbian and how you intend to go. Let me know if you need more information.

SpectatorHello Charles,
Can you please tell me which Maljavec we are talking about, there are several of them in Serbia.
Regards,
Sergej
SpectatorWhat I would suggest besides the link another poster gave you in the previous post is to use the Phonebook of Serbia and see if you can find living relatives in Ruma. Just go to the link page.
Maybe they have more info that you could use.

SpectatorHello Robert,
Yes I know where Ridjevstica is, I have crossed the roads there that lead to Aleksandrovac many times. My question would be, where did the priest get his info from? If I were you I would check with the archives in Krusevac as well because Trstenik like all surrounding towns deployed their archives in the main location in Krusevac. Also go check the church records.
As for the brdjani etc, those are nicknames common in that area. My family has a nickname as well named after our village.
As for Kosovo, my family originally also came from Kosovo. Those archives are inaccesible, but you can consult the church records. So try to get more info from the priest. Most likely they came from the north of Kosovo like Podujevo or Leposavic.
Unfortunally you need to be “there” to do more research. We have some members in that region but they dont do research yet for others. We hope we can get that far next year.
I hope this helps, if there is anything else let me know.
Pozdrav,
Sergej
SpectatorI just got off the phone with Danica. We pulled offline the database this week, and are redoing a new system plus we are adding new letter templates and Serbian content.
At the moment we are working overtime.

SpectatorHello Robert,
My family resides in the Krusevac region, the name you have can be found there and in the area of Vranje–>Leskovac as well.
As for the origin, I would say it could be derived from Egger which is a common German surname. But, you would need to create a pedigree of your family tree. I dont know how often you go to Serbia, but when you are there just go to the archives in Krusevac and Kraljevo with the data of your father and grandfather. That would be the best way to figure out from where they came and after whom/what they were named.
You can also use the Telekom site to search the towns for people with the same surname. Hope this helps.

SpectatorApatin falls under the archives of Sombor. You should write them with the details of the baptismal records. Depending on his religion you can also write the church in question. Use the search function on the forums to find the list of archives and religions.

SpectatorWonderfull site, thank you for the message. I have send you a PM.

SpectatorI have talked to our programmers and this is the todo list for hopefully this year when it comes to site features:
* Multi-lingual member system, which will enable us to completely seperate the languages and have a full English and Serbian section,
* Small site layout update, easy navigation and new header with graphics.Sergej
SpectatorLooking good, me likes. Just some small items here I emailed about new registrants but otherwise it seems to work smooth.
Sergej
SpectatorI’ve sent you a PM
Sergej
SpectatorThere is one researcher I can ask to contact you. You will get a PM, you can work out the details with him.
Sergej
SpectatorWell that depends. Do you want to do things yourself or spend it all away? If you want to get involved into the process yourself of doing research in Serbia than I would suggest membership in the SGS. ( http://www.rodoslovlje.com/voyager/novo/showarticle.php?articleID=26 )
Officially we do not advice researchers to non-members, we are in the process of creating an accreditation programm for researchers. SGS members can ask each other for a free or for a fee. We are not in the position to give garantuees neither are the researchers.
We will give accreditations in the future that someone is a valid researcher, but the SGS will never offer research services. We will tho display a list of researchers that one can use, but the contract is between the researcher and contractor.
We are in the difficult position that the archives are not microfilmed and that basically if you want to do research you need to speak Serbian and write/call them or hire someone. Because the archives are not microfilmed it will be hard to give an indication on what still excists and what has been destroyed. Serbia in that fashion is a country full of uncertanties.
Sergej
SpectatorHmm, let your friend from Novi Sad call them then, or even better let him check out the data for you.
The Serbian Orthodox Church doesn’t allow the LDS church to microfilm the Orthodox books, so there isn’t much on microfilm. Old fashioned work is what needs to be done

We have a letter tempalte for SGS members, and some members in that area that do research for members, be it free or for a small fee. Thats the only thing I can advice if your friend cant help you out.
