SpectatorHi,
Not only name but place of birth and religion/family saint is very important. There are many families with the same surname but that doesnt mean they are related.
Sergej
SpectatorHi,
Well, there are a lot of people with those surnames. You will need to narrow it down with dates of birth if possible.
Best search would be here

Sergej
SpectatorMost likely not. The SOC doesnt like the LDS church and therefore they do not allow microfilming. Serbia knows tight privacy rules and if there would be anything microfilmed then most likely you can find at the FHLC because they fear the “plundering” of their national heritage.
Best thing to do is to contact the FHLC or the archives in Serbia directly for family related data.

Sergej
SpectatorTo give people and update on our office in Serbia. Things have got a twist. We are still waiting for some political changes to take place before we can do anything. We will shortly publish a new SGS magazine with additional information on the status and plans.
Danica is online again, and catching up with all the forum posts that were made in her absence

Sergej
SpectatorI got your email. Good news, keep me posted and if there is anything I can do let me know.

SpectatorRobert,
A quick question. Do you know if there is any genealogical society organized in Croatia? Or heraldic for that matter?
Thank you in advance.
Pozdrav,

SpectatorHello Stephan,
That dance would be a “kolo”, and there are many different types of it. Congratulations with your daughters engagement. I will see if I can get you some info on how to do some good dances since its hard to explain them over a forum

Danica, one of our board members, is back online again. It takes ages to get an internet connection in Serbia. She will be starting researching again soon, but we’ll post a message on that on the forum.
On one way I am glad to have finished school, but always want to study more. I guess I need more funds for that but o well we will see what the future will bring.
Site is all done, more content will follow soon. If you have sattelite try getting Serbian TV, by listening you will learn faster.
Regards,
Sergej
SpectatorBTW, I have been at the archives of Krusevac and they are very helpfull.
If there is anything else let me know.
Sergej
SpectatorHi,
You would have to write to the archives in Krusevac and see if they have any birth certificated on your father.
Records were kept since that was required by law, even if you live in a small village. You can find the archives address in the message list.
Military records are hard to research since most of the time they are restricted. I would first try your avarege birth and baptismal records.

SpectatorRobert,
Smederevo’s Palanka has also a Donauschwaben community. If it would be Backa Palanka then one would have to contact the Novi Sad archives.
Its hard for me to tell without seeing any registration documents, but Feldenzers site also talks about Smederevo. Since both Palanka’s still have a Donauschwaben community I guess it wouldn’t hurt searching both of them. If they were from the Backa Palanka then she can access all documents through the LDS center I believe but you would have to ask them.
But please keep in mind that it wont go fast.
For map of the region go to the link page and see the Dr. Staedler map, its in German but you can switch to English.
