No most likely not. Petko, Petkova or Petkovic are Slavic names with Slavic endings. So they have the same root but different endings. Although there are certain surnames that have different endings and that are still related to each other, genealogical research is always the first step one needs to undertake.

the -vic part in Serbia means son of. In Bulgaria e.g. you will see the -ova ending. Most likely in Slovakia and other Slavic nations as well.

    Hi Robert,

You will need to write the archives of Leskovac with your request.
I cant promise though they will react, the archives are in a state of a mess at the moment. You might try calling them 016/57-426

    Bob,

Sounds great. I mean you will have the luxury of doing commited research yourself. Yes the Cyrillic script can be hard, but I dont think it is in Cyrillic since its from the Catholic Church and in Vojvodina. BUt then again if it is you need help, and it wouldnt hurt to learn Serbian for that matter.

I think the Croation guy can read Serbian, if not let me know. We will figure something out. First see if you can obtain the documents, if you get things on disc send them to me per email.

3.25 is no price I would say for ancestral records. It think it will be worth while. Let me know how it goes.

You have State Archives, District Archives and Communal Archives. State archives are holding goverment documents. THe district and COmmunal archives hold documents on the people. firts you have a DA and the a CA. Its merely the size of the community, communal archives are part of the DA.

    Hallo,

Currenlty habe ich die Zeit nicht, um Übersetzungen zu tun. Wir werden bald einen On-line-Übersetzungsdienst stellen. Ich werde Ihnen Bescheid sagen, wenn das geschieht.

Use this link to locate the nearest center: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp?PAGE=library_fhc_find.asp

As for translations, we can do them. If it is a small amount we dont charge anything. Otherwise we charge 5 bucks per page.

    Good luck,
